Offering so much for all the senses
Once, the Ice House stored ice that was used to preserve fish caught in the River Moy, one of Ireland’s most renowned salmon fisheries. Today, its cavernous vaults have been transformed into something very different: the welcoming and stylish 54° 9° Restaurant.
Here, Chef Anthony Holland and his team create superb dishes featuring the finest and freshest ingredients available from local suppliers.
Fish features prominently on the menu, as Anthony’s childhood was spent fishing and foraging for periwinkles, blackshells and cockles on nearby Achill Island. For him, the simplicity, versatility and freshness of fish inspires wonderfully exciting dishes.
FRESH THINKING
Freshness doesn’t travel. So wherever possible, we rely on trusted local suppliers for our produce and ingredients.
These include black pudding and sausages supplied by Kelly’s of Newport, lamb from Calvey Butchers of Achill, vegetables and salads from Enniscoe House Organic Gardens and the freshest fish from Joe Garvin, located just one kilometre from The Ice House.
EVEN FRESHER THINKING…
Lapping water. Birds gliding by. The sun setting behind Belleek Wood’s tree line on the opposite bank. When nature obliges, al fresco dining on the 54° 9° Restaurant’s terrace is an unmissable and unforgettable experience.
FEAST YOUR EYES
54° 9° is a treat for all the senses. Remodelled in 2021, the original whitewashed stone is flooded with light reflected by the river and complemented by elegant cedarwood accents. Away from the windows, tasteful concept lighting induces a wonderfully relaxed, convivial and contemporary ambience.
This also creates the perfect space for displaying striking art from a range of Irish and international artists, carefully chosen from the owner’s personal collection.
